New York — One of America's most acclaimed magazine essayists, Olivia Nuzzi of New York magazine, has been put on leave while a "outsider survey" is led after the distribution said Nuzzi revealed that she "had participated in an individual relationship with a previous subject pertinent to the 2024 mission while she was providing details regarding the mission."
While the magazine didn't recognize the subject, an individual with direct information regarding this situation let CNN know that the relationship was with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who ran for president as a free applicant and as of late embraced Donald Trump. The individual said the relationship was close to home and advanced in nature, not physical.
A Kennedy representative told CNN, "Mr. Kennedy just met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for a meeting she mentioned, which yielded a hit piece."
The supposed relationship was first written about Thursday night by Oliver Darcy in Status.
In a proclamation to CNN, Nuzzi said her relationship with a revealing subject had "turned individual" and that she lamented not unveiling it to the distribution.
"Recently, the idea of a few correspondence among myself and a previous detailing subject turned individual. During that time, I didn't straightforwardly cover the subject nor use them as a source," she said. " The relationship was rarely physical yet ought to have been revealed to forestall the presence of a contention. I sincerely regret not doing so right away and apologize to those whom I have disappointed, particularly my New York colleagues.
In a note to perusers, New York magazine said Nuzzi is "right now on leave," and the distribution is "directing a more exhaustive outsider survey."
In November of last year, Nuzzi wrote a profile of Kennedy and has since written numerous other features about Trump and the 2024 campaign.
"Recently" acknowledging a relationship with a reporting subject, Nuzzi "violated the magazine's standards around conflicts of interest and disclosures," the publication claims.
"Had the magazine known about this relationship, she could not have possibly kept on covering the official mission," the New York magazine explanation added.
The magazine likewise said that "an inward audit of her distributed work has found no errors nor proof of inclination." Despite this, the publication stated, "we regret this breach of our readers' trust."
